PTP Privacy Policy

The policies below are applicable to all the Web sites owned and operated by the Progressive Technology Project (PTP), including those on the progressivetech.org and ourpowerbase.net, collectively referred to as “PTP Web Sites”. Not all sub-domains on ourpowerbase.net are operated by Progressive Technology Project and are subject to separate privacy notices under the control of their operators. By visiting our PTP Web Sites, you are accepting the practices described in our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the PTP Web Sites.

PTP is dedicated to protecting the privacy of all visitors to the PTP Web Sites. PTP collects personal information, voluntarily submitted by visitors to the PTP Web Sites, which enables us to respond to requests for publications, distribute e-newsletters, process grant applications , respond to requests for more information or assistance and other similar requests. Except as disclosed below, we don’t sell, barter, give away, rent or permit anyone outside of the Progressive Technology Project to use your personal information.

From time-to-time our site requests information via surveys. Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Survey information will be used monitoring or improving the impact of the work of the Progressive Technology Project.

We occasionally use third-party agents, affiliates and partners to perform functions such as marketing, analytics, shipping orders, providing customer service, etc., on our behalf. These entities have access to the personal information needed to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of any personal information collected from the PTP Web Sites. They are restricted from using, selling, distributing or altering this data in any way other than to provide the requested services to the PTP Web Sites.

The Progressive Technology Project also collects anonymous information to help us tailor the PTP Web Sites to visitor interests and concerns. For visitors to our website, we log standard technical information, such as the numerical Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using; the browser software you use and your operating system; and the Internet address of the website from which you followed a link to our site. We use “cookies” to help us understand which parts of our PTP Web Sites are the most popular, where our visitors are going and how much time they spend there. The information that is gathered through cookies is used to assist in improving PTP Web Sites design and function. Some of the PTP Web Sites are functional without the retention of cookies.

PTP Web Sites contain links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

The Progressive Technology Project strives to protect the transmission of any information submitted by visitors. But no transmission of data is completely secure, and submissions are at the visitor’s risk. Please remember that any information you share in public areas, such as message boards or feedback sections, becomes public, and therefore this Privacy Policy does not apply to any information you choose to make public. Please be careful about what you disclose, and do not post any personal information that you expect to keep private.

These PTP Web Sites are published in the United States and are subject to laws of the United States. If you are located in a country outside the United States and voluntarily submit personal information to us, you thereby consent to the general use of such information as provided in this Privacy Policy and to the transfer of that information to, and/or storage of that information in, the United States. The Progressive Technology Project shall not be liable under any circumstances for damages resulting from use of information collected from visitors to the site.

PTP employs industry standard security measures to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. Certain portions of the PTP Web Sites are restricted by domain to members of the PTP community only. Still other pages may require users to enter their username and password. Although we make good faith efforts to store information collected by PTP in a secure operating environment, we cannot guarantee complete security. Information collected by PTP will be maintained for a length of time appropriate to our needs

While PTP endeavors to provide the highest level of protection for your information, we may disclose personally identifiable information about you to third parties in limited circumstance, including: (1) with your consent; or (2) when we have a good faith belief it is required by law, such as pursuant to a subpoena or other judicial or administrative order.

If we are required by law to disclose the information that you have submitted, we will attempt to provide you with notice (unless we are prohibited) that a request for your information has been made in order to give you an opportunity to object to the disclosure. We will attempt to provide this notice by email, if you have given us an email address or by postal mail if you have entered a postal address. If you do not challenge the disclosure request, we may be legally required to turn over your information.

In addition, we will independently object to requests for access to information about users of our site that we believe to be improper.

We reserve the right to modify or amend the terms of this Privacy Policy from time to time without notice. Your continued use of our PTP Web Sites following the posting of changes to this Privacy Policy will mean you accept those changes.
