Duties and Responsibilities
- General research on best practices and technical assistance related to grassroots organizing and technology.
- Assist in developing PTP’s information collection and distribution systems.
- Conduct research and evaluation from pool of PTP applicants.
- Administrative tasks include maintaining files, sorting mail, answering phones, searching newspapers and magazines for clippings and some photocopying.
Strong applicants will have good writing, research, and oral communication skills. A background and interest in social justice, familiarity with issues that community groups are working on, and a strong commitment to social change are important. Technology skills and interests are a major plus. Experience in an office environment is helpful. Willingness to enjoy work and acknowledgement that a little humor goes a long way is also important. Familiarity with PC environment and office software suites.
When and Where
Preferably 20 – 40 hours a week for 3 or 6 month periods. Possible full-time 6 – 9 month internship for the right person. Stipends are possible when funding permits, for academic credit please check with your department’s and/or institution’s policies. Position works from the PTP office in Minneapolis, MN.

Q: When do our Internships start?
A: Internships are available year round. While PTP is flexible with Intern start dates and end dates. Internships generally begin:
- May or June
- August or September
Q: Are internships paid?
A: Internships are usually unpaid, but small stipends are often made available when funding permits.
Q: What is the deadline for applying for an Internship?
A: We accept cover letters and resumes throughout the year. Include the term you are interested in, as well as all addresses and phone numbers where you can be reached. Interns are selected as needed, based on semester and summer school schedules.
Q: Who is eligible to be an Intern?
A: Any person who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate university program. This includes students who just received their degree.
Q: How long do PTP internships last?
A: Internships are normally a semester or a summer, a minimum of 12 weeks. However, depending on the internship project we may offer limited or extended internships.
Q: Will Interns be expected to do clerical tasks?
A: Our hope is to provide an opportunity for our interns to do substantive and meaningful work. However, clerical tasks are often part of the internship, but should not comprise more than 25% of the time.
