PTP's Program: Training

PTP's Training program has two main goals:Arif in a training session
  • To increase the capacity of grassroots community-led organizing (CLO) groups to use technology in their work and
  • to build a "knowledge network" of CLO staff and leaders who share knowledge, skills and resources on integrating technology into community-led organizations.

PTP's curriculum incorporates multiple learning styles to the greatest extent possible. Over the years, we've learned that stories from the field are one of the most effective teaching tools, so we do our best to collect and share those stories as part of our program.

At present, we offer a number of different training opportunities for you and your organization:

TechCamp TechCamp works with new and old organizers who are interested in building their technology skills. TechCamp training is designed to build the basic skills of community organizers in the key technology competencies for community organizing. DETAILS
COaTI The Community Organizing and Technology Institute (COaTI) is PTP's organizational training program designed to assist community-led organizations use technology strategically to achieve their goals.. You can learn more about it here.
Voter Tech Training Voter Tech Training - NEW for 2008. If you’re planning a voter engagement project in 2008 you know that managing your voter data is going to be a critical success factor.  This training is designed for the database person in your office who’ll be tasked with managing the data side of your voter engagement. Voter TechKit Voter TechKit is a special website for community organizers, technology support people, and funders interested in learning more about how to increase and sustain civic participation.  We have structured it for you to see and hear directly from organizers who have engaged in successful voter projects that have become permanent programs of their organizations.  If your organization is interested in voter projects that go beyond voter registration and you are wondering how other organizations do it, check out the Voter Techkit - you can visit it now at http://votertechkit.progressivetech.org
Convenings Convenings on Technology & Organizing: periodically, PTP will convene technology specialists and organizers to explore the potential of different technologies. More information on our convenings is available here.
Workshops Conference Workshops and Speaking Engagements: At PTP, we love doing workshops and presentations at conferences on a variety of technology-organizing related topics. Recent workshops have included "Sex, Lies, and Databases" at the Jobs with Justice Annual Meeting and "Online Communications for Effective Activism" at a recent SPIN Academy.
